Višegrad is in the most eastern part of Republika Srpska, only 16 kilometers away from the Serbian state border. With the recent reconstruction of the railroad and building of the Andrićgrad complex, this has become one of the most attractive destinations. Andrićgrad is a touristic, cultural, administrative and educational complex situated on a peninsula between rivers Drina and Rzav. It was built upon an idea and effort of a director Emir Kusturica. Andrićgrad is a finished project of a medieval stone town inspired by the works and book characters of Nobel laureate Ivo Andric. It is, in fact, a vision of how Višegrad could have looked if it was not bypassed by renaissance and other historical periods. As for the architecture of the town, it is a mixture of different epochs and styles which were changing during the history of this area: Byzantine style, Ottoman period, Renaissance, classicism.
The best way to feel the untouched nature is by water. Forests, canyons and river banks around it keep the traces of prehistoric, ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine culture. Unique folklore is log cabins spread along the bank of the river Drina. Perućac Lake was made damming the river Drina. This is an accumulative lake which, because of the steepness of the shore, is 3 to 8 meters deep. It is the border between Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia.
