Our history
Hotel Palisad is a living monument of a bygone era, constantly evolving and offering every visitor the privilege of becoming part of a story spanning more than six decades. The heart of Hotel Palisad beats in its authentic “living room” – a space where decades of hospitality meet the invaluable treasures of Serbian art. Our walls are not just partitions, but a living gallery enriched with motifs of surreal landscapes, portraits, and sculptures by great masters who have given Palisad the soul of a museum.
The true brilliance of the hotel has always been shaped by people – such as our living legend, Mrs. Dušanka Minić, whose unique charm has become an inseparable part of the memories of generations of our guests and a symbol of an era we proudly preserve.
We thank all guests who have been, or will become, part of our history.

Residence of Statesmen and Diplomacy. During the 1970s and 1980s, the hotel experienced its full expansion, transforming into a cultural and artistic center that went beyond the classic hotel offering. Thanks to its special role in the life of the then president, Palisad served for decades as a representative hotel for state delegations during their official and private visits to Zlatibor. In addition to Josip Broz Tito, a long list of high-ranking officials chose this very hotel: from Edvard Kardelj and Stane Dolanc, to Petar and Ivan Stambolić, as well as members of the royal family, Prince Tomislav and Princess Jelisaveta Karađorđević. Palisad also became a magnet for many great athletes, setting standards for high-altitude training of top sports professionals, which secured its status as a cult gathering place for champions and artists under one roof.

Time of Transformation: A Modern Hotel with the Soul of Tradition. In the early 2000s, a phase of thorough transformation and modernization began, allowing the hotel to successfully step into the new millennium while preserving its recognizable "retro charm." Privatization initiated a cycle of significant investments in infrastructure, including the complete renovation of accommodation capacities and the introduction of exclusive amenities, such as a modern Spa & Wellness center. Following privatization, the hotel further expanded its offerings with the construction of sports facilities, fostering the development of sports tourism. This decade was crucial for repositioning Palisad as a contemporary resort that masterfully blends authentic materials – warm wood and stone – with the highest expectations of the modern guest. Today, it is a place where historical heritage meets the need for ultimate relaxation and top-tier service.

Cultural Treasury and Inspiration for Great Minds. It was precisely during this golden period that the hotel’s renowned art collection was formed, turning its spacious halls into a unique gallery showcasing masterpieces by Sava Šumanović and Nadežda Petrović. By exhibiting this valuable collection of artworks within the hotel, a significant space for the development of cultural tourism was also opened. For decades, Palisad has served as an inspiring retreat for writers and thinkers, offering a sense of peace that fosters creativity. The hotel’s authentic atmosphere has inspired many great figures, and it is recorded that academician Dobrica Ćosić worked right here, in November 2011, on the manuscript of his book, finding creative tranquility in the silence of Zlatibor’s pine forests.
